7,7 million litres of beer, 6,2 million visitors, 16 large beer tents, 22 smaller ones, over 150 attractions, 500 different food stands and a lot of photos: the Oktoberfest, or “Wiesn” as lovingly called by us locals, is also known as the “fifth season” in Munich as it changes the face of the whole city once a year.
Oktoberfest.de wanted to update its website and I was asked to document and provide authentic photos that show the beautiful traditions, delicious food & drink, awe-inspiring architecture of the tents and the atmosphere and quirkyness within and outside them.
It was decided to use more and larger photos on the oktoberfest.de page than in the past to make it more open and immersive:
I was given a list of must-have photo motives and it was up to me to organise the timing and delivery.
After a lot of planning and preparation (and buying comfortable shoes) I decided to kick it off by photographing the iconic larger and smaller beer tents, including their beer gardens:
But the thing that makes the Oktoberfest what it is, is all the different people from far and close coming to visit:
